Questions & Answers

Dental Cleanings and Exams

Comprehensive Dental Check-ups

At Sunshine Family Dental, we believe that dental cleanings and exams are essential components of maintaining good oral health. Regular dental checkups and cleanings can help identify and prevent dental problems before they become more serious, ensuring that you maintain a healthy, beautiful smile.

Why Are Dental Cleanings and Exams Important?

Dental cleanings and exams are important for several reasons:

  1. Preventative Care: Regular dental checkups and cleanings can help prevent the onset of dental problems like cavities, gum disease, and other oral health issues. By identifying and treating dental problems early, you can avoid more serious dental issues in the future.
  2. Early Detection of Dental Issues: During a dental exam, your dentist can identify potential dental problems and recommend appropriate treatment options, helping to prevent more serious dental issues in the future.
  3. Professional Teeth Cleaning: A professional teeth cleaning removes plaque and tartar buildup that can cause cavities, gum disease, and other oral health issues. Regular cleanings can help prevent these issues and maintain good oral health.

What Can I Expect During a Dental Cleaning and Exam?

During a dental cleaning and exam, our dental team will perform a comprehensive oral exam, including a visual examination of your teeth, gums, and mouth. We may also take X-rays to identify any potential dental problems not visible during the visual exam.

Following the oral exam, our dental team will perform a professional teeth cleaning, removing plaque and tartar buildup and polishing your teeth. We may also provide fluoride treatments and dental sealants, depending on your individual needs.

How Can I Maintain Proper Oral Health at Home?

In addition to regular dental checkups and cleanings, it is important to practice proper oral hygiene habits at home. This includes brushing your teeth twice a day for at least two minutes and flossing daily. You may also want to consider using an antiseptic mouthwash to help kill bacteria that can cause gum disease and other oral health issues.

At Sunshine Family Dental, we are committed to helping you maintain good oral health and a beautiful smile. Contact us today to schedule a dental cleaning and exam and take the first step toward a lifetime of good oral health.

Dental Hygiene

Education for Optimal Oral Health

Sunshine Family Dental is committed to helping you maintain your oral health through proper oral hygiene. Professional dental cleanings are important, but good dental hygiene practices at home are equally important to prevent tooth decay, gum disease, and other oral health problems.

Why is it Important to Brush and Floss?

Dr. Narasimhan recommends brushing your teeth at least twice per day and flossing daily to maintain good dental hygiene. Brushing helps remove plaque and food particles from the surfaces of your teeth, while flossing helps remove plaque and food particles from between your teeth that your toothbrush can’t reach.

What are some Additional Ways to Promote Proper Oral Health?

In addition to brushing and flossing, there are other ways to promote good oral health. Toothpaste and mouth rinses with fluoride can help strengthen your teeth and prevent tooth decay. Eating a balanced diet that is low in sugar and limiting sugary snacks can also contribute to good oral health.

Drinking water after meals can help wash away sugars from foods and drinks and neutralize acids in your mouth. If you consume acidic foods or drinks, such as sodas or candies, it is important to wait at least 30 minutes before brushing to allow your saliva to neutralize the acids and protect your teeth.

The Sunshine Family Dental team is dedicated to helping you achieve a beautiful smile and maintain proper oral health. Please contact us if you have questions about your current dental hygiene routine or want to learn more about how to maintain healthy dental hygiene habits. We are dedicated to providing you with the highest quality dental care.

Oral Cancer Screenings

Early Detection for a Healthy Smile

Have you experienced any pain or difficulty while speaking, swallowing, or moving your jaw or tongue?

In the United States alone, one adult dies every hour from oral cancer. When oral cancers are identified in the initial stages, treatment can begin more quickly. In the initial stages, treatment has a higher rate of success and is less invasive. In more advanced stages, oral cancers are more likely to have spread to other areas and need complex treatment.

Dr. Narasimhan recommends having an oral cancer screening at least once each year. Regular screenings can help ensure early detection of any potential cancers.

During your oral cancer screening, Dr. Narasimhan will check for any abnormalities. We will closely examine your mouth, throat, lips, gums, and tongue. Let us know about any potential symptoms you have experienced, including:

  • Pain or difficulty with speaking, swallowing, or moving your jaw or tongue
  • A sensation that something is caught in the back of your throat
  • Sore throat with no other sinus symptoms
  • Lumps or swellings in or around your mouth
  • Drastic weight loss
  • White or red patches in your mouth
  • Mouth sores that do not heal
  • Unexplained ear pain
  • Unexplained bleeding in your mouth

If you have experienced any of these symptoms for more than a week without improvement, call us immediately for an appointment.

Are You Aware of the Factors that Increase Oral Cancer Risks?

Anyone may develop oral cancer, but there are certain factors that can increase your risks. Some of the most common include:

  • Being male (men are more likely to develop oral cancer than women)
  • Use of tobacco in any form (6 times more likely)
  • Genetic predisposition for oral cancers
  • Excessive or prolonged exposure to sun
  • Unhealthy diet
  • Excessive consumption of alcoholic beverages
  • Having gastro-esophageal reflux disease (GERD)

For more information on oral cancer screenings or to schedule an appointment, contact Sunshine Family Dental.

Fluoride Treatments

Strengthening Your Teeth with Fluoride Treatments

At Sunshine Family Dental, we understand the importance of protecting your teeth and overall oral health. That’s why we offer fluoride treatments, which are an important part of preventive dental care, especially for young children and teens whose permanent teeth are still developing.

What is Fluoride?

Fluoride is a naturally occurring mineral found in food and water, and it helps protect teeth from acid erosion and tooth decay. When acids, such as those caused by sugars and plaque from bacteria, attack the enamel of teeth, it causes demineralization. When foods and water that contain fluoride, calcium, and phosphate are ingested, remineralization occurs to restore the enamel of your teeth. Fluoride treatments can help prevent tooth decay from occurring by helping weak enamel gain resistance to acids and speed up the remineralization process.

Who Can Benefit from Fluoride Treatment?

Fluoride treatments can be beneficial to many types of individuals beyond children and teens. Individuals with cavities or gum disease, those who suffer from dry mouth, and those with dental crowns or bridges can all benefit from fluoride treatments.

How is Fluoride Applied?

At Sunshine Family Dental we use fluoride varnish to help strengthen the enamel of your teeth. Fluoride varnish is a sticky protective coating that is painted on the teeth in order to prevent new cavities from developing as well as to prevent existing cavities from progressing. Fluoride varnish treatments are applied with a soft brush and make the tooth more resistant to decay-causing plaque and sugars. Over the course of several months, the varnish releases fluoride, which strengthens the enamel of your teeth.

What are Some of the Benefits of Using Fluoride?

There are a number of great benefits associated with fluoride treatments for patients. This procedure is quick and inexpensive and does not cause any discomfort. When fluoride concentrations are high, tooth enamel is strengthened and decay can even be reversed, saving time and money on future dental treatment. In general, fluoride treatments offer the following benefits:

  • Protects teeth from decay
  • Is capable of reversing small cavities
  • Strengthens weak enamel on teeth
  • Saves time & money on restorative care
  • Provides long-lasting protection between dental visits

Is Fluoride Safe to Use?

Fluoride is a naturally occurring mineral that can be found in soil and water. Fluoride is also added to water supplies by many cities to assist residents in maintaining good oral health. Fluoride is perfectly safe in small amounts.

How long do I have to wait to brush my teeth after getting a fluoride treatment?

As a general rule, the longer you can wait to brush your teeth after a fluoride application, the better. If possible, patients should wait 4-6 hours before brushing their teeth after their appointments.

In addition to receiving fluoride treatment at our dental office, it can be applied to the teeth through fluoridated toothpaste and mouth rinses. Mouth rinses containing fluoride in lower strengths are available over-the-counter. However, stronger mouth rinses can be prescribed as needed. Dr. Narasimhan will advise you about your child’s fluoride needs.

At Sunshine Family Dental, we understand the importance of preventive dental care and the role that fluoride treatments can play in keeping your teeth healthy. Our experienced and knowledgeable team is always available to answer questions and explain how fluoride treatments can help protect your teeth and your overall oral health. Contact us today to learn more about the benefits of fluoride treatments and how they can help your family maintain healthy teeth for years to come.

Sealants

Shielding Your Teeth from Decay

What are Sealants?

Sealants are highly effective in preventing tooth decay and cavities on your molars and premolars. These areas are the most susceptible to cavities due to the anatomized grooves.

Typically, children get sealants on their permanent molars and premolars as soon as these teeth come in. These sealants can protect the teeth through the cavity-prone years of ages 6 to 14. However, adults without decay or fillings in their molars can also benefit from sealants.

How Do Sealants Safeguard Your Teeth from Decay?

The process of applying sealants is easy and fast. The application steps are as follows:

  • We thoroughly clean the teeth
  • The teeth are dried
  • A liquid solution is put on the chewing surfaces of the teeth
  • The solution is cured using a special curing light

Sealants act as a barrier and protect the enamel from plaque and acids. They may last for several years before a reapplication is needed. While the sealant remains intact, the tooth surface will be protected from decay.

Sealants are not a substitute for brushing your teeth. It is important to maintain proper oral hygiene and keep up with professional dental cleanings. Also, sealants do not protect between the teeth, so it is essential to continue to floss daily.

Athletic Mouth Guards

Protecting Your Smile

Do You Have the Essential Gear for Sports Safety?

When you are preparing for sports practice or a game, you wouldn’t dream of going without your uniform. If you are playing a contact sport like football or hockey, you always have a helmet and pads on before going near the field or rink. However, if you aren’t using a sports mouth guard for your practices and matches, you are missing a vital piece of protective gear.

Each year, an estimated 13-39% of all dental injuries occur while playing sports. Since mouth guards were made a mandatory part of American football, about 200,000 injuries to the mouth and teeth have been prevented annually.

However, the dangers of tooth and mouth injury do not end with contact sports. In fact, recent studies have found that today’s basketball players are far more likely to suffer injury to the face, mouth, and teeth than football players. For these sports, contact comes from the ball, ground, hoop, or other surface rather than other players, so mouth guards are not currently required by most schools and many teams.

Protect your teeth with a sports mouth guard. Dr. Narasimhan will custom-fit your mouth guard to keep you safe while you play.

Night Guards

Protecting Your Smile

Sunshine Family Dental is committed to helping you maintain your oral health. Among the services we provide at our practice is the creation of night guards.

What is a Night Guard?

A night guard is a custom-fitted appliance that is worn while you sleep to help protect your teeth from grinding and clenching. Teeth grinding, or bruxism is a condition that can cause significant damage to your teeth over time. It can lead to soreness and jaw pain, as well as damage to your enamel and an increased risk of tooth decay and gum disease. A night guard can help reduce the impact of teeth grinding and provide protection against the damaging effects of the condition.

How Does a Night Guard Work?

A night guard is designed to fit snugly over your teeth and cushion the impact of grinding. The guard works by creating a barrier between your upper and lower teeth, preventing them from coming into contact with one another and absorbing the force of the grinding. The guard also helps to realign your bite, reducing the tension that can lead to teeth grinding.

Who Needs a Night Guard?

If you suffer from teeth grinding or clenching, then a night guard can help protect your teeth from damage and help you get a better night’s sleep. You may also benefit from a night guard if you have a misaligned bite or suffer from jaw pain or headaches.

What are the Benefits of a Night Guard?

A night guard helps to protect your teeth from damage caused by grinding and clenching and can help to reduce soreness and jaw pain. It can also help to realign your bite and reduce the tension that can lead to teeth grinding.

At Sunshine Family Dentistry, we will work with you to create a custom night guard that is comfortable and fits your mouth perfectly. Please contact us today to learn more about night guards and to schedule an appointment. We look forward to helping you achieve a healthy smile for life.

Children’s Dentistry

Creating Healthy Smiles for Kids

Why Are Regular Dental Visits Important for Your Child’s Oral Health?

A lifetime of healthy teeth begins with good dental habits. Give your child a solid foundation by bringing them for an exam and cleaning twice each year. Encourage your child to listen to the dental team during their visit. Work with your child at home to improve their dental hygiene routine.

What Are the Benefits of Early Oral Examinations for Children?

The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry has found that your child should visit the dentist within six months after the presence of the first tooth or by his or her first birthday. Early oral examination aids in the detection of the initial stages of tooth decay. Early detection is also essential to maintaining good oral health.

During each visit, we will gently clean your child’s teeth and remove any plaque or tartar. We will carefully examine their mouth and teeth for any potential issues. Regular cleanings and exams can help prevent tooth decay, gum disease, and other oral health issues.

Tooth decay has become the most common chronic childhood illness in the U.S. We will teach you and your child how to properly brush and floss their teeth as they grow. We will discuss dental hygiene habits and healthy food choices. We will teach your child to be our partner in keeping their mouth and teeth healthy.

How Can Fluoride and Dental Sealants Help Protect Your Child’s Teeth from Decay?

We may recommend treating your child’s teeth with fluoride. This mineral can strengthen tooth enamel, making teeth more resistant to decay. Fluoride may be applied in office or used in certain toothpastes and mouth rinses.

In some cases, we may recommend the use of dental sealants. Sealants are a protective coating applied to the chewing surfaces of molars. Recent studies have found that sealants can be highly effective in preventing tooth decay.

Help your child have a lifetime of healthy teeth and gums. Contact Sunshine Family Dental and request a dental exam and cleaning for your child.

Dental Crowns

Restoring Damaged Teeth with Crowns

Sunshine Family Dental offers dental crowns as a solution for restoring damaged or decayed teeth. A dental crown restores the shape, size, and strength of a tooth by covering the entire surface. Our dental team can assist you with determining whether dental crowns are the most appropriate option for your dental needs.

What Are Dental Crowns?

A dental crown covers a damaged or decayed tooth with a custom-made cap. Various materials are used to make a dental crown, including porcelain, ceramic, and metal alloys. A dental crown can be used to restore teeth that are cracked, chipped, decayed, or weakened. Moreover, they are useful for covering teeth that have undergone root canal therapy or supporting dental bridges.

What is The Dental Crown Treatment Process?

A dental crown is typically placed in two appointments. At the first appointment, our dental team will prepare your tooth for the crown by removing any decayed or damaged tooth structure. In order to create a custom-made dental crown, we will take impressions of your tooth. It may be necessary to place a temporary crown on your tooth until the permanent crown is ready.

In the second appointment, the temporary crown will be removed and replaced with the permanent crown. It is our responsibility to ensure that the crown fits correctly and matches the color of your surrounding teeth. Following the placement of the crown, we will inspect your bite and make any necessary adjustments.

What Are the Benefits of Dental Crowns?

Dental crowns offer several benefits, including:

  1. Improved Appearance: Dental crowns can restore the shape, size, and color of damaged or decayed teeth, improving the appearance of your smile.
  2. Restored Functionality: Dental crowns can restore the functionality of damaged or weakened teeth, allowing you to bite and chew properly.

Dentures

Regain Your Smile’s Confidence with Dentures

Welcome to Sunshine Family Dental! We are a family-owned and operated dental practice dedicated to providing high-quality care to our patients and their families in our Carol Stream dental office. Our goal is to ensure that each patient feels comfortable and well taken care of throughout the entire dental experience.

At Sunshine Family Dental, we understand the importance of having a healthy and beautiful smile, which is why we offer a wide range of dental services to ensure your oral health and restore the beauty of your smile.

What are Dentures?

Dentures are a type of prosthetic device used to replace missing teeth, providing structure, stability, and improved appearance. They are custom-made to fit each individual’s mouth and can be used to replace a single tooth, multiple teeth, or even a full set of teeth. The type of dentures that are right for you will depend on the number of teeth missing, the position of the remaining teeth, and the shape of your jaw.

What Types of Dentures Are Available?

There are two types of dentures available: complete dentures and partial dentures. Complete, or full, dentures are used when all of the teeth are missing, while partial dentures are used when some natural teeth remain. Both types of dentures are designed to fit your mouth comfortably and securely and provide a natural-looking, aesthetically pleasing result.

The process of receiving dentures typically begins with a consultation with one of our dentists, during which we will take impressions of your teeth and gums and discuss the options available to you. Once the impressions have been made, our team will work with a dental laboratory to create custom dentures that fit your mouth perfectly. The dentures will be fitted to your mouth and adjusted for maximum comfort. After the dentures are fitted, we will provide you with instructions on how to care for them, as well as any other instructions or tips that may be helpful.

How Should You Care for Your Dentures?

It is important to care for your dentures properly and keep them clean in order to prevent discoloration or staining. We recommend that you brush your dentures daily with a mild, non-abrasive cleanser and rinse them after eating. You should also avoid using harsh abrasives when brushing your dentures, as this can damage them. To prevent the growth of bacteria and plaque on your dentures, you should soak them daily in a solution that is specifically designed for dentures.

At Sunshine Family Dental, we are committed to helping you achieve and maintain a healthy and beautiful smile. If you have any questions about dentures, the procedure, or how to care for them, please don’t hesitate to contact us. We look forward to helping you achieve the smile of your dreams!

Inlays and Onlays

Customized Restorations for Damaged or Decayed Teeth

At Sunshine Family Dental, we offer inlays and onlays as a means of restoring your smile. Inlays and onlays are both used to help protect and restore teeth that have been damaged by decay or trauma. While they are similar in purpose, they are different in design and application.

What is the Difference Between an Inlay and an Onlay?

Inlays are used to repair damage caused by decay or trauma to the tooth and are placed in the grooves of the tooth. They are created from a variety of materials, such as porcelain, gold, and composite resin. Inlays are often used to restore teeth that have been slightly damaged and can be used to restore small cavities.

Onlays are similar to inlays, but they are used to repair and restore more extensive damage, such as large cavities or fractures. Onlays are larger and cover more area than inlays, and are usually used to replace a cusp of a tooth. Onlays are usually made from porcelain, gold, or composite resin.

At Sunshine Family Dental, our experienced dentists will assess the damage to your teeth and recommend the best treatment for you. Our dentists will discuss the benefits of both inlays and onlays and will help you choose the most appropriate treatment for your needs.

What Are the Benefits of Inlays and Onlays?

Inlays and onlays are both beneficial for restoring teeth and can help to improve the strength and function of your teeth. Inlays and onlays can also help to improve the appearance of your teeth by restoring their natural shape and color. Inlays and onlays are also long-lasting and can help to protect your teeth from further damage.

At Sunshine Family Dental, we understand the importance of good oral health and will do our best to ensure you get the best care possible. Root Canal Treatment

Saving Your Natural Teeth

Root canal treatment is a common dental procedure used to repair and save a severely damaged or infected tooth. At Sunshine Family Dental, we understand that the thought of undergoing a root canal can be daunting, but we assure you that our experienced team of dental professionals is here to help you through every step of the process.

Why Do You Need Root Canal Treatment?

If the pulp inside your tooth becomes infected or inflamed, it can cause severe pain and discomfort. Common causes of pulp damage include deep tooth decay, repeated dental procedures on the same tooth, and cracks or chips in the tooth. If left untreated, the infection can spread to the surrounding tissues and cause an abscess or even bone loss.

How Does Root Canal Treatment Work?

During a root canal, our skilled doctors will remove the damaged or infected pulp, clean out the inside of the tooth, and then fill and seal the tooth with a dental filling. In some cases, a dental crown may be placed on top of the treated tooth to provide additional support and protection.

After the procedure, you may experience some mild discomfort, which can be managed with over-the-counter pain medications. It is important to maintain good oral hygiene practices, including brushing and flossing regularly, to prevent further damage or infection.

Why Should You Trust Sunshine Family Dental for Your Root Canal Treatment?

At Sunshine Family Dental, we understand that root canal treatment can be a source of anxiety for many patients. That’s why we offer a comfortable and caring environment to help put you at ease during your visit.

If you are experiencing severe tooth pain or suspect you may need a root canal, don’t hesitate to contact us today to schedule an appointment. Early intervention is key to preventing further damage and restoring your oral health.

Diagnosing Periodontal Disease

Understanding Your Gum Health

What Is Periodontal Disease and How Is It Detected?

At Sunshine Family Dental, we are committed to providing our patients with the latest in dental technology and the highest quality of care. Periodontal disease is a serious condition that can lead to tooth loss and other oral health problems. We take the diagnosis and treatment of periodontal disease very seriously and will do our best to ensure that your teeth and gums stay healthy.

Our doctors and hygienists are specially trained in diagnosing periodontal disease. During a periodontal exam, we will use a small dental instrument called a periodontal probe to measure the pocket (or space) between the tooth and the gums. A healthy pocket should measure three millimeters or less and should not bleed. If the pocket is deeper than three millimeters, it is an indication that periodontal disease may be present.

What Are the Different Stages of Periodontal Disease?

Our doctors or hygienists will use pocket depths, amount of bleeding, inflammation, tooth mobility, etc. to make a diagnosis. This diagnosis will fall into one of the following categories:

• Gingivitis: the first stage of periodontal disease. Plaque and its toxin by-products irritate the gums, making them tender, inflamed, and likely to bleed.

• Periodontitis: plaque hardens into calculus (tartar). As calculus and plaque continue to build up, the gums begin to recede from the teeth. Deeper pockets form between the gums and teeth and become filled with bacteria and infection. The gums become very irritated, inflamed, and bleed easily.

• Advanced Periodontitis: teeth lose more support as the gums, bone, and periodontal ligament continue to be damaged. Unless treated, the affected teeth will become very loose and may be lost.

At Sunshine Family Dental, we understand the importance of treating periodontal disease. Our experienced team of doctors and hygienists will work with you to ensure that you receive the best possible care. If you are concerned about periodontal disease, please contact us today to schedule an appointment. We look forward to helping you achieve optimal oral health.

Scaling & Root Planing (Deep Cleaning)

Thorough Treatment for Gum Disease

Scaling and root planing is a common non-surgical procedure used to treat gum disease. This treatment involves removing plaque and tartar buildup from the teeth and gums, as well as smoothing out any rough spots on the tooth root surfaces. At Sunshine Family Dental, we offer scaling and root planing as part of our comprehensive dental services to help improve your oral health.

Why Do You Need Scaling and Root Planing?

Gum disease, also known as periodontitis, is a serious condition that can cause significant damage to your teeth, gums, and supporting bone if left untreated. It occurs when bacteria in plaque and tartar buildup along the gum line, leading to inflammation, redness, and bleeding. If left untreated, gum disease can progress to advanced stages, leading to tooth loss and other serious health complications.

How Does Scaling and Root Planing Work?

Scaling and root planing is typically performed in a series of appointments and involves the following steps:

  1. Scaling: Our skilled dental hygienist will use special instruments to remove plaque and tartar buildup from the teeth and gums.
  2. Root planing: Once the teeth and gums have been scaled, our hygienist will use special instruments to smooth out any rough spots on the tooth root surfaces.
  3. Follow-up appointments: In some cases, additional follow-up appointments may be necessary to ensure that the gums are healing properly and to monitor your progress.

After the procedure, you may experience some mild discomfort, which can be managed with over-the-counter pain medications. It is important to maintain good oral hygiene practices, including brushing and flossing regularly, to prevent further buildup of plaque and tartar.

If you are experiencing symptoms of gum disease or suspect you may need scaling and root planing, don’t hesitate to contact us today to schedule an appointment. Early intervention is key to preventing further damage and restoring your oral health.

Frenectomy

Correcting Tongue and Lip Tie

Sunshine Family Dental is proud to offer a specialized treatment called a frenectomy to our patients who may be suffering from a condition known as ankyloglossia. Ankyloglossia, commonly referred to as a tongue-tie, is a condition in which the thin tissue (frenulum) that extends from the underside of the tongue to the floor of the mouth is too short or too tight, causing the tongue to be restricted in its range of motion.

What Are the Symptoms of Ankyloglossia (Tongue-Tie)?

The symptoms of ankyloglossia can vary from person to person and can be mild to severe. Mild tongue-ties can cause difficulty with breastfeeding, speaking, and eating, while more severe cases can cause speech impediments, dental issues, and even difficulty with swallowing.

At Sunshine Family Dental, we understand the importance of treating tongue-ties as soon as possible to ensure that patients can enjoy a full range of motion and can eat, talk, and swallow without difficulty.

What is a Frenectomy Procedure?

A frenectomy is a simple, minimally invasive procedure that can be done right in our office. It involves removing and/or reshaping the frenum to create a greater range of motion of the lips or tongue and to allow for proper oral development and muscular function. During the procedure, our experienced dentists will use a laser to remove the excess tissue in the frenulum. The procedure is generally quick and painless, with minimal bleeding, and the entire process can be completed in just a few minutes.

After the frenectomy, we recommend that our patients do some tongue exercises to help the tongue heal and to improve its range of motion. We’ll also provide some tips on how to care for the area, such as eating soft foods, avoiding tobacco, and drinking plenty of water.

At Sunshine Family Dental, we understand that ankyloglossia can create difficulties for some patients, and we strive to ensure that our patients have a full range of motion and a comfortable lifestyle. That’s why we’re proud to offer a frenectomy as a way to help our patients overcome tongue-ties and regain their ability to eat, talk, and swallow without difficulty.

If you or a loved one is experiencing symptoms associated with ankyloglossia, please do not hesitate to contact us. You will be able to discuss your treatment options with one of our experienced doctors and begin the journey towards a healthier, happier life.

What is Laser Dentistry?

Our team at Sunshine Family Dental takes pride in offering our patients the latest in dental technology, including laser dentistry. Laser dentistry is a modern and efficient way to treat various dental conditions and deliver superior results.

At Sunshine Family Dental, we use laser dentistry to help our patients achieve the best possible outcomes and maintain their oral health. Laser dentistry is a minimally invasive and painless procedure that can be used to treat a wide range of issues, such as tooth decay, gum disease, root canal therapy, and even cosmetic issues like teeth whitening. By using lasers, we can more precisely target the area being treated, resulting in faster healing times and fewer complications.

Invisalign®

Transforming Your Smile with Invisalign®

Our team at Sunshine Family Dental understands how important your smile is to you and your overall self-confidence. That’s why we’re proud to offer our patients Invisalign®, the revolutionary orthodontic treatment that helps you to achieve a straight and beautiful smile without the hassle and discomfort of traditional metal braces.

What is Invisalign®?

Invisalign® is a set of clear, custom-made aligners that are made to fit your mouth. Each aligner is worn for two weeks and gradually shifts your teeth into the desired position. The aligners are virtually invisible so no one will even notice that you’re wearing them; you’ll be able to smile, laugh, and talk with confidence knowing that your straight, beautiful smile is being achieved in the most discreet way possible!

Invisalign® is the perfect choice for busy adults and teens who don’t want to be burdened with bulky metal braces. The aligners are comfortable to wear and easy to remove for eating and brushing. And because the aligners can be removed for cleaning, you don’t have to worry about food getting stuck in the brackets and wires like you do with traditional braces.

What is the Difference Between Invisalign® Versus Traditional Braces?

Invisalign® uses clear aligners that blend in with your smile to gradually straighten your teeth, whereas braces use uncomfortable metal brackets, wires, and bands to adjust your teeth. Since Invisalign® aligners are removable and non-intrusive, many people prefer them.

More Comfortable

Clear aligners are not only less conspicuous, but they are also more comfortable to wear. Invisalign® trays are made of high-grade plastic that’s completely smooth. In contrast to metal braces, these trays do not cause any rubbing, chafing, or other forms of friction-related discomfort. From end to end, they provide a comfortable, custom fit without any sharp, extruding pieces or edges.

What Dietary Restrictions Can I Expect During Invisalign® Treatment?

Traditional wire braces restrict people from eating a wide variety of foods. A few examples include chewy candy, crunchy nuts, and uncut apples. In order to indulge in chewy, crunchy, or sticky foods while wearing braces, you must first cut them into tiny bite-sized pieces. It is also necessary for individuals with braces to spend a great deal of time brushing, flossing, and removing food particles from their teeth and braces. In contrast, eating with Invisalign® is as easy as removing your aligner trays. You can easily brush and clean your aligners before reinstalling them. Additionally, they make it easier to avoid dental decay, gum disease, and other oral health issues that many individuals with braces experience when their oral hygiene is substandard. There are no sharp, worrisome extrusions to brush or floss around, nor are there trapped food particles to worry about. Choosing Invisalign® is beneficial to your overall oral health.

Is Invisalign® a More Convenient Orthodontic Option?

With Invisalign® trays, office visits are only required every six weeks. This means that you will spend far less time in our office than if you chose traditional metal braces, ceramic braces, or any other alternative orthodontic appliances. For many patients, these treatments can be significantly shorter overall. With a customized plan, you can reach your cosmetic goals in a short period of time. This is the most convenient treatment for those who do not have a lot of time for regular office visits.

Our team at Sunshine Family Dental is proud to offer Invisalign® to our patients. We understand that each patient’s smile is unique so we work closely with you to create a customized treatment plan that meets your specific needs and goals. We’ll use advanced 3D imaging technology to create a virtual image of your mouth and teeth and use this image to determine the best course of treatment.

Our team will provide you with detailed instructions on how to properly insert, wear, and remove your aligners. We will also provide you with a schedule of when to change to the next aligner so that you can track your progress.

At Sunshine Family Dental, we’re committed to helping you achieve the beautiful, straight smile you’ve always wanted. Contact us today to learn more about Invisalign® and to find out if it’s the right choice for you. We look forward to helping you achieve the smile of your dreams!

Orthodontic Aligners

Clear Aligners for Discreet Orthodontic Treatment

At Sunshine Family Dental, we are pleased to provide orthodontic aligners as a safe, effective, and discreet option for straightening misaligned teeth. You may be able to achieve a healthy, beautiful smile using this non-invasive, aesthetic straightening option.

Is Orthodontic Aligner Treatment a Safe and Effective Option for Straightening Teeth?

Traditional orthodontic treatments often include braces, with unattractive metal brackets and bulky silver wires. However, removable aligners are worn over the teeth and can be removed to allow you to eat, brush, and floss normally during your orthodontic treatment. Aligners are a comfortable, convenient, and easy-to-use solution for straightening your teeth.

Orthodontic aligners provide other health benefits in addition to straightening teeth. Teeth that are crowded, gapped, or misaligned are more difficult to keep properly cleaned and flossed. Over time, this can lead to a higher rate of tooth decay. Crowded and misaligned teeth are also more prone to issues like cracking and wear, due to improper occlusion (bite).

Straightening your teeth with orthodontic aligners can protect against these issues. Additionally, misaligned teeth are more likely to develop periodontal (gum) issues. Orthodontic treatment can help keep gums firm around the teeth, protecting against bacterial infections that can lead to periodontal disease.

By choosing orthodontic aligners to straighten your teeth, you can avoid many of the issues commonly associated with traditional braces. Our patients who choose orthodontic aligner treatment are much less prone to experiencing pain, discomfort, or mouth sores than those with traditional metal braces. Additionally, the ability to remove your aligners to allow proper brushing and flossing can lead to a reduced rate of plaque buildup and tooth decay.

At Sunshine Family Dental, we can help you achieve straight teeth and a beautiful, healthy smile with orthodontic aligners. For more information or to schedule a consultation, contact our office.

Retainers

Maintaining Your Smile’s Alignment

Most comprehensive orthodontic treatment will involve the use of braces or aligners. In either case, your treatment involves minor movement of your teeth to correct misalignment. This ensures both a straight smile and an even bite.

Why is Retention Important After Orthodontic Treatment?

However, braces are not the only stage needed for a permanent orthodontic solution. Once your braces have been taken off, the retention phase begins. It is vitally important to follow through with retention to maintain your newly straight smile after treatment. Your final orthodontic results depend on your retainer, so be sure to keep your appointments with Dr. Narasimhan even after your braces have been removed.

What Are the Different Types of Retainers and How Do They Work?

There are a few distinct types of retainers that may be recommended to you:

  • Clear Retainers – A removable, transparent plastic tray that fits over your teeth.
  • Traditional Retainers – A removable appliance made of acrylic and a wire that sits on the front side of your teeth.
  • Bonded Retainer – A thin, fixed wire that is temporarily bonded to the lingual (tongue) side of the anterior teeth.

Dr. Narasimhan will provide you with the retainer option that is best suited for your orthodontic treatment plan. Your retainer should be worn as often as instructed. Your teeth have been in active treatment for months or even years. Wearing your retainer is crucial for ensuring that your teeth do not shift back out of their corrected positions.

How Should I Clean and Maintain My Retainer for Proper Care?

When it is not in your mouth, keep your retainer in its case. Bacteria can build up on your retainer, making it less hygienic and affecting the fit. Regular cleaning to remove these bacteria is a vital part of proper retainer care.

To clean your retainer, brush it gently with a wet toothbrush. Disinfect your retainer by soaking it in a cleansing solution. Thoroughly rinse the appliance with cold or room-temperature water before placing it back in your mouth. Hot water can cause the retainer to lose its proper shape, so should be avoided.

For more information about proper care and use of your retainer, contact our office.

Extractions

Gentle Tooth Removal When Necessary

When is a Tooth Extraction Necessary for Dental Health?

At Sunshine Family Dental, we do everything we can to maintain and restore your natural teeth. In some cases, however, an extraction may be necessary to prevent infection and alleviate discomfort. If you are experiencing discomfort or believe you may need a tooth extraction, our skilled doctors can help you decide if it is the right treatment option for you.

Our team at Sunshine Family Dental will always ensure that patients understand the importance of tooth extractions and the process involved. Having teeth extracted is sometimes a necessary part of dental care, and we strive to make the process as comfortable and stress-free as possible.

Our team of skilled doctors will assess your dental needs and determine if a tooth extraction is the right solution for you. There are several reasons why a tooth may need to be extracted, including:

  • Impacted tooth: a tooth that is trapped beneath the bone or gums and is not emerging properly.
  • Crowding or a small mouth: emerging teeth may cause other teeth to shift or fracture due to a lack of space.
  • Decay or infection: when a tooth is affected by extreme decay or infection that cannot be corrected with a filling or root canal treatment, it may require extraction.

In the event that any of these issues apply to you, our doctors may recommend that you have one or more teeth extracted. During your consultation, we may also recommend sedation dentistry to make your experience more comfortable.

How Should You Care for Your Mouth After a Tooth Extraction?

After your extraction, you will need to be driven home by a friend or family member. You will require rest, but lie with your head propped on a pillow to prevent prolonged bleeding.

We will apply gauze when your extraction is complete. When it becomes soaked, change it for a fresh piece. Use pain medication and ice packs as directed for pain and swelling. If bleeding continues beyond 24 hours, contact our office immediately.

For the first few days following extraction, limit your diet to soft foods. Avoid smoking or using a straw, as the pressures created by these actions can slow clotting and loosen sutures.

At Sunshine Family Dental, we understand that the idea of a tooth extraction can be intimidating. That’s why our team of skilled doctors is dedicated to providing the highest quality care and ensuring your comfort during treatment. If you have any questions about tooth extractions or would like to schedule a consultation, please don’t hesitate to contact us.

Dental Implant Placement

Permanent Tooth Replacement Solutions

What are Dental Implants?

Dental implants provide a safe, durable replacement for missing teeth. Dental implants function like natural teeth and have a very natural appearance within your mouth. Our doctor is committed to ensuring your optimal comfort and quality care. To that end, we make use of the latest techniques and technologies that allow efficient, stress-free treatment. Many of our patients find dental implants to be an appealing tooth loss solution and are pleased by how relaxed and comfortable their experience can be.

What is the Initial Stage of Dental Implant Treatment for Tooth Loss?

Implantation is the first stage in a two-part process that provides a long-term solution for tooth loss. The dental implant, a small titanium post, is gently placed into your jaw by our doctor. This post functions as an artificial tooth root. As it heals, the implant will fuse with your natural bone, creating a strong, secure foundation for the replacement tooth or denture. Throughout the process, our team takes great care in ensuring your optimal comfort.

How is a Replacement Crown Attached to a Dental Implant?

A replacement crown is a prosthetic tooth that is attached to the dental implant. This crown is custom-designed to look and function like one of your natural teeth. In some cases, a temporary crown may be provided, to provide aesthetic and functional benefit while your implant heals. Once the implant has fully healed, the custom-crafted permanent replacement crown is affixed, restoring the fullness and functionality of your smile. Replacement crowns are a great option for replacing any number of teeth.

What Are Implant-Supported Dentures?

Implant-supported dentures provide another teeth replacement option that can be a great alternative to conventional dentures. Our doctor will recommend a teeth replacement plan based on your individual needs and preferences.

  • Removable Implant-Supported Dentures provide replacement for all upper and/or lower teeth. They can be removed for cleaning like conventional dentures, yet are far more secure than unsupported dentures. These dentures can be attached with as few as 4 implants, though are more secure with additional implants. Our dentist will advise you on how many implants are best for your removable implant-supported dentures.
  • Fixed Implant-Supported Dentures also replace all upper and/or lower teeth. These dentures are permanently anchored to your dental implants. They are used to replace a full set of teeth and can be helpful in preventing bone loss. The strength of dental implants provides an ideal anchor for dentures that will not become loose or slip within your mouth.
  • Implant-Secured Partial Fixed Dentures are a type of bridge that is anchored to one or more dental implants. A standard bridge is a type of partial denture that replaces one or more teeth.  The standard bridge is secured to surrounding teeth, which can cause these neighboring teeth to become loose. With implant-secured partial fixed dentures, the implant provides the anchor, so your natural teeth are not compromised.

What Are Some of the Benefits of Dental Implants?

Dental implants are an aesthetic, effective solution for tooth loss. There are many great benefits to choosing dental implants.

  • Natural-looking smile: Dental implants are crafted to closely resemble your natural teeth, restoring a natural-looking smile.
  • Improved oral health: Since there is no need to alter surrounding teeth to anchor implants, more of your natural teeth are preserved intact, improving long-term oral health.
  • Improved speech: With removable, non-anchored dentures, teeth can slip within the mouth, causing slurred or mumbled speech. Dental implants remove that concern.
  • Improved comfort: Dental implants avoid the slipping and discomfort of removable dentures.
  • Improved function: Dental implants function like your natural teeth, allowing you to eat without pain.
  • Durability: With proper care, dental implants can last a lifetime.
  • Protect healthy bone structure: Empty spaces caused by tooth loss can, over time, lead to deterioration of the jawbone. Since dental implants function like tooth roots, they can prevent this type of deterioration, just as natural teeth do.
  • Long-term solution: Dentures must be replaced about every 5-7 years. Dental implants, when cared for properly, can last a lifetime.

Are Dental Implants Right For Me?

There are several factors that our doctor will consider before recommending dental implants. Some of these include:

  • Adequate bone support to anchor the implant
  • Healthy gum tissue
  • Sinus and nerve location
  • Overall health, including any chronic illnesses

In some cases, we may recommend advance treatment for your upper or lower jaw to enable you to have the bone support needed for implantation. As always, your treatment plan is created based on your specific needs and goals for your healthy smile.

Be sure to let us know about any medications you are taking during your consultation. Your health and safety are paramount.

How Do I Care for My Implants?

You will need to care for your implants just as you care for your natural teeth. Brushing and flossing are important to prevent the build-up of plaque. Regular dental cleanings and exams are still an important part of ensuring great oral health.

Is It Painful to Receive a Dental Implant?

With the advances of modern technology, most patients report feeling very little discomfort both during and after treatment. Our team is trained and certified to offer sedation with oral surgery, which provides a relaxed, comfortable experience during treatment.

How Long Will My Implants Last?

With proper care and treatment, your implants can last a lifetime, just like natural teeth.

Bone Grafting

Building a Strong Foundation for Dental Implants

How Does Bone Grafting Benefit Your Oral Health and Prepare for Dental Implants?

Bone grafting is a common dental procedure used to restore areas of the jawbone that have been weakened or are damaged due to periodontal disease, tooth loss, or trauma. During a bone grafting procedure, bone material is added to the weakened or damaged region of the jawbone in order to restore its structure and strength.

Bone grafting is often used in preparation for dental implants, as it allows the implant to be securely placed and supported by the jawbone. Bone grafting can also help to prevent the jawbone from deteriorating over time, which can lead to further tooth loss and other oral health issues.

At Sunshine Family Dental, our team of experienced and knowledgeable doctors can provide you with the highest quality of care throughout your entire bone grafting procedure. During your initial consultation, we will assess your specific needs and develop a personalized treatment plan that is tailored to your individual situation.

We understand that the thought of any dental procedure can be intimidating, which is why we always take the time to explain the entire process to you in detail. Our goal is to ensure that you are comfortable and informed throughout your entire experience.

What is the Bone Grafting Process?

During the bone grafting procedure, we will use a variety of techniques to ensure the success of the graft. This can include the use of donor bone, synthetic bone, or your own bone. The type of graft chosen will depend on your specific needs.

Once the graft is complete, we will provide you with detailed instructions for post-operative care in order to ensure the success of the bone graft. This may include instructions for proper oral hygiene, dietary restrictions, and the use of medications.

At Sunshine Family Dental, we are dedicated to providing our patients with the best possible care and results. Our team of experienced and knowledgeable dentists is here to help you every step of the way. Contact us today to schedule your initial consultation and learn more about how bone grafting can benefit your oral health.

Crown Lengthening Surgery

Dental Crown Lengthening for Improved Aesthetics and Function

What is Crown Lengthening Surgery?

Crown lengthening is a dental procedure in which excess gum and bone tissue are removed from around your teeth. This procedure is usually done to make your teeth look longer. It can also be used to treat gum disease, make space for restorations, and to correct an uneven gum line.

Crown lengthening can be a great way to improve the appearance of your teeth. It can be used to even out a gummy smile, giving you more confidence in your smile. It can also help to make your teeth look longer, which can make them look more aesthetically pleasing.

At Sunshine Family Dental, we use a combination of dental lasers and soft tissue surgery to perform your crown lengthening procedure. We strive to make your procedure as comfortable and stress-free as possible. Our experienced dental team will ensure that your procedure is performed with the utmost care and precision.

Dentoalveolar Surgery

Enhancing Dental Health: The Role and Benefits of Dentoalveolar Surgery

What is Dentoalveolar Surgery?

Dentoalveolar surgery describes a set of oral surgery procedures that deal primarily with the teeth and soft tissues of the mouth. Here are some of the most common types of dentoalveolar surgery we perform.

What Options Does Sunshine Family Dental Offer for Safe and Comfortable Tooth Extractions?

If decay, injury, disease, or orthodontic treatment causes you to need a tooth extracted, you may be referred to our office. We will work with you to determine the best anesthetic option to ensure your extraction is done in a safe and comfortable manner.

Should I Consider Wisdom Teeth Extraction?

Third molars, more commonly known as wisdom teeth, are the last teeth to emerge and have a high likelihood of complications with their growth. Due to their location in the back of the mouth, wisdom teeth are often obstructed by crowding within the mouth and may become impacted (unable to emerge). They may even cause damage to surrounding teeth when there is not enough room for them to grow in fully. When wisdom teeth are impacted, infected, or are likely to damage other teeth, it may be best to have them extracted. Our experienced team will discuss your options with you and ensure your safety and comfort throughout.

What Should I Do if I Have an Impacted Tooth That Is Unable to Emerge Properly?

For some patients, a tooth may become trapped beneath bone or gum tissue and unable to grow in. This is known as an impacted tooth. When this occurs, our team can review your specific situation and perform the appropriate surgery to assist the tooth in emerging into your mouth in its correct position.

How Can a Soft-Tissue Graft Help Address Gum Recession and Related Issues?

A soft-tissue graft is recommended in some cases to bolster the gum tissue to a specific area within the mouth. Generally, this is done in cases of gum recession, root exposure, or to prevent the development of soft-tissue-related issues.

For more information about these or other dentoalveolar surgery procedures, contact our office.

Pocket Reduction

Regain Healthy Guns for Improved Periodontal Health

Pocket reduction is a specialized treatment to help reduce the amount of space between your teeth and gums. Pocket reduction is designed to remove bacteria from the gum line and reduce the risk of gum disease and other dental health issues.

What is Pocket Reduction?

Pocket reduction is a dental procedure that helps reduce the amount of space between the teeth and gums. This procedure is often used to treat periodontal (gum) disease. During a pocket reduction, our doctors will use a special tool to remove bacteria from the gum line and reduce the pockets of bacteria that can form between the teeth and gums. This helps reduce the risk of gum disease, tooth decay, and other dental health issues.

What are the Benefits of Pocket Reduction?

Pocket reduction has many benefits, including:

  • Reduced risk of gum disease: By reducing the pocket of bacteria between the teeth and gums, pocket reduction can help reduce the risk of gum disease.
  • Improved dental health: Pocket reduction can help improve your overall dental health by removing the bacteria that can cause tooth decay and other dental health issues.
  • Improved appearance: Pocket reduction can help improve the look of your smile by reducing the pockets of bacteria between the teeth and gums.
  • Improved comfort: Pocket reduction can help make your teeth and gums more comfortable by reducing the pockets of bacteria between them.

How Does Pocket Reduction Work?

Pocket reduction is a simple, non-invasive procedure. Our doctors will use a special tool to remove the bacteria from the pocket between the teeth and gums. This will reduce the pocket of bacteria and improve your oral health.

Our team at Sunshine Family Dental understands the importance of treating gum disease, which is why we offer pocket-reduction surgery. We are dedicated to providing the highest quality of care to our patients and will gladly answer any questions you have. We look forward to helping you achieve the best possible oral health. Gum Grafting

Restoring Your Smile: Gum Grafting for Enhanced Periodontal Health

What is Gum Grafting?

Gum grafting is a common periodontal procedure that is used to treat a variety of conditions, including gum recession and thinning gums. At Sunshine Family Dental, our doctors specialize in gum grafting to help restore your gums to optimal health.

Gum grafting involves removing tissue from one part of the mouth and transferring it to another part with inadequate gum tissue. There are two types of gum grafting: free gingival graft and connective tissue graft. Each serves a specific purpose in treating gum recession. Our doctor will recommend the treatment that is right for your individual needs.

What Are the Different Types of Gum Grafts and How Can They Improve Your Gum Health?

  • Free Gingival Graft: This graft is designed to thicken thinning gums in cases where there is no tooth root exposure. By thickening the gum tissue, your gums are more resistant to infection. Additionally, the free gingival graft helps to prevent further gum recession.
  • Connective Tissue Graft: This graft is designed to treat cases where tooth root surfaces have been exposed. The graft is used to cover the exposed tissue and helps to reestablish the proper gum contours within the mouth. The success of this method often depends on the amount of bone loss in the area where the exposure has occurred.

At Sunshine Family Dental, our experienced doctors will take the time to understand your individual needs and discuss the benefits and likely outcomes prior to beginning treatment. We will also provide you with post-operative instructions to help ensure that your recovery is as comfortable and successful as possible.

Gum grafting is an effective way to restore your gums to a healthy state and protect your teeth and gums from further damage. If you are experiencing gum recession or thinning gums, our doctors can provide you with the treatment you need to restore your gums and improve your oral health. Contact us today to schedule an appointment and learn more about gum grafting.

Sinus Lift

Elevating Your Dental Health: The Benefits of a Sinus Lift Procedure

Sunshine Family Dental is proud to offer a range of advanced dental procedures, including sinus lifts, to help restore your oral health and improve your quality of life. If you have been told that you require a sinus lift, our experienced team of dental professionals is here to guide you through the process and ensure your comfort.

What is a Sinus Lift?

A sinus lift, also known as a sinus augmentation, is a surgical procedure designed to add bone to the upper jaw in the area of the molars and premolars. It is typically performed when there is not enough bone height in the upper jaw, or when the sinuses are too close to the jaw for dental implants to be placed. The procedure involves lifting the sinus membrane and adding bone graft material to the area to create a stable foundation for dental implants.

Why Do You Need a Sinus Lift?

If you are missing teeth in the upper jaw, a sinus lift may be necessary to provide the necessary bone support for dental implants. Dental implants are a popular and effective solution for replacing missing teeth, but they require a sufficient amount of bone to support them. A sinus lift can help ensure the success of dental implant treatment and restore your ability to eat, speak, and smile with confidence.

How Does a Sinus Lift Work?

A sinus lift is typically performed under local anesthesia and some patients may require sedation to ensure their comfort throughout the procedure. Our doctors will make a small incision in the gum tissue and lift the sinus membrane to create a small space for the bone graft material. The bone graft material is then placed into the space and allowed to heal over a period of several months.

After the procedure, it is important to follow all post-operative instructions provided by our dental team, including taking any prescribed medications and avoiding certain foods and activities. Once the area has fully healed, dental implants can be placed to restore your smile and oral function.

If you have been told that you require a sinus lift, don’t hesitate to contact us today to schedule an appointment. Our experienced team of dental professionals will guide you through the process and ensure a successful outcome.

Botox®

Enhancing Your Natural Beauty

At Sunshine Family Dental, we offer our patients the benefits of Botox® Cosmetic dermal fillers. What better way to enhance your freshly whitened smile, beautiful veneers, or straighter teeth than with a newly refreshed and more youthful appearance? Men and women alike can enjoy the benefits of these procedures, completed in our office in less than an hour.

What is Botox® Cosmetic and How Does It Work?

Botox® Cosmetic is a prescription medicine that is injected into your facial muscles. It is used to reduce the look of moderate to severe frown lines between the eyebrows and “crow’s feet” that develop around the eyes. It works by blocking the nerve impulses to the injected sites, reducing the muscle activity that causes these persistent lines to form. The effects of Botox® cosmetic are temporary, lasting up to 4 months.

Why Should I Consider Botox® Cosmetic?

You may have noticed frown lines between your brows or “crow’s feet” near your eyes, making you look tired or even older than you should. Ask Dr. Narasimhan if Botox® is right for you. Real results, no surgery, and no recovery time necessary are a few of the reasons to choose treatment with Botox® Cosmetic.

Is There Any Medical Reason to Use Botox® Cosmetic?

Yes. Botox® Cosmetic may be used in the treatment of Temporomandibular Joint Disorders (TMJ/TMD).  Botox® Cosmetic is injected into facial and jaw muscles to provide relief from jaw tension and soreness. Additionally, these injections can reduce bruxism (teeth grinding), minimize lockjaw, and eliminate bruxism headaches.

Will I Still be Able to Have Facial Expressions?

Although the results are visible, a treatment with Botox® Cosmetic will not radically change your facial appearance or make you look as if you’ve “had work done.” The muscle activity that causes frown lines between the brows is temporarily reduced, so you can still frown or look surprised, just without the wrinkles and creases.

How Long Can I Expect My Results to Last?

Visible results can last up to 4 months. Your own results may vary. Dr. Narasimhan will discuss with you what you should expect and when you should schedule your next appointment.

*Pricing is based on individual consultation. Learn more at www.botoxcosmetic.com.

Why Should I Consider JUVÉDERM® Products?

How Many Treatments Will I Need to See Results?

Most patients see their desired results in only one treatment.

How Long Will the Results Last?

Is There Anything I Need to Do After the Treatment?

Does Treatment with JUVÉDERM® Products Require any Incisions in the Skin?

No, there are no incisions required with treatment, which means that recovery time is minimal.

How Will I Know if JUVÉDERM® Products are Right for Me?

Ask our doctor for a consultation and recommended treatment options. We will consider your personal goals, overall health, and any medications you are taking when advising you whether JUVÉDERM® products may be right for you.

TMD/TMJ Treatment

Relieving Pain and Restoring Comfort

What Are the Symptoms of TMJ Disorder and How Can It Impact You?

TMJ refers to the temporomandibular joint, and it is a hinge that joins your jaw to the temporal bones of your skull.  This joint allows you to move your jaw side to side and up and down, and facilitates chewing, talking, and yawning.  In some cases, there can be a problem with this joint that is referred to as Temporomandibular Joint Disorder or TMD.

TMJ disorder can be quite painful and cause a large amount of discomfort. Some of the common symptoms include:

  • Face, jaw, or ear pain
  • Swelling over the joint
  • Headaches
  • Clicking or Popping sounds
  • Jaw becoming locked open or closed
  • Feeling of only a few teeth touching while biting down
  • Pain or difficulty chewing
  • Worn or chipped teeth
  • Ringing in the ears (Tinnitus)
  • Bruxism or Sleep Disorder Breathing

TMJ Disorders can affect the quality of your life, from annoying aches to debilitating headaches and pain. We have treated several patients with TMJ symptoms. Come in for a free consultation today.

What is TMJ Therapy?

It is essential to seek assistance from a dental expert to treat the TMJ disorder. This treatment can range from something as simple as fixing a dental restoration or the use of oral appliance therapy. Occlusal appliances are custom designed to fit your mouth and reduce stress on your jaw by placing it in the proper position.

Your TMJ Disorder may also have a sleep airway component as well that can be screened by your dentist to determine if additional treatment is needed. Your dentist may recommend Myofunctional Therapy or Specialized Physical Therapy to help manage your TMJ Disorder. This physical therapy can help muscles that are overworked or correct alignment problems with the neck that can affect your TMJ. The use of Myofunctional therapy can help to restore the tone and positioning of the muscles in your oral cavity.

Once your TMJ Therapy goals have been met by our team, we can then work on restoring equilibrium if needed by reshaping the teeth for proper closure. This reshaping can help to eliminate the need for oral appliances and helps all aspects of your jaw work in harmony.
